In 2002 I started doing some gigs with Mike Bagwell (pedal steel), Jef Chandler (guitar), Joe Cash (drums) and Chris Garrett (bass). Around 2008 we started calling ourselves The Bad Popes.
The Bad Popes play a funky blend of rock, country and western swing. We do some covers, but our original songs are about living in American — from baseball and cars, to lost dogs and beer halls.
Our self-titled debut CD (2009), pictured at left, was all acoustic, featuring an upright bass, a dobro, a mandolina, and of course, acoustic guitars. Jef and I contributed the vocals.
Our follow up disc, “Town and Country” (center), came out in 2012, and we released our third, “Rounders,” in 2015. Click on any of the album covers to get more details or make a purchase.
Take a listen!
You can find the Bad Popes at various venues around Greenville, including the Independent Public House, Gottrocks, and Smileys. And yes, we also venture out of state. Check out our full schedule at BadPopes.com.
